COVID-19 Safety and Tips for Self Protection

COVID-19 (Also known as the Novel Coronavirus) is a respitory disease illness that can quickly and easily spread from person to person. The novel virus was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China. This virus needs to be taken seriously and with caution.

Who is most at risk?

  • Elderly

  • Children

  • Those with a compromised immune system

What are the symptoms?

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath

How does COVID-19 Spread?

It is thought to spread mainly between people are in close contact within one another (hence, the 6 foot rule implemented across the nation) through respitory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It’s also possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their face, mouth, eyes etc.

How can i protect myself?

  • Avoid touching your face as much as possible. If you need to touch your face to put on lotion, makeup etc., please wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds before doing so.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Maintain the 6 foot rule if you can!

  • Wash your hands often. Sing the Happy Birthday song while washing. This will give you a good idea of how long you need to be washing your hands each time.

  • Use an alcohol-based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not immediately available.

How can i protect myself?

  • STAY AT HOME!

  • CALL your doctor. Do not go to the doctors office; call them first. If your doctor feels that you need to be seen, he/she will ask you to come in or give you further instructions to be seen. Showing up at the doctors office unannounced may open you up to more germs.

  • Cover your cough and/or sneeze with a tissue, then throw away immediately.

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

  • Create a schedule to make sure you are cleaning door handles, refrigerator handles, toilet handles etc. on a regular basis. If you have others in your home, assign everyone a time of day to completely wipe down these areas.

Is there a cure for COVID-19?

No, there is currently no vaccine or treatment for COVID-19. The best way to avoid infection is to follow the measures above and wash your hands regularly.
